Hummers are pretty blooming cool; ok, they are bad for the environment, they are a symbol of military power and they have a front grill at the head height of a 6-year-old. If these points are disregarded though, they are just big, brash and groovy.

Thanks to artist Heidi Hesse, the usually impenetrable oversized armoured transportation has been realigned physically and symbolically through the medium of confectionary – specifically bubblegum.

Hesse has given a rather literal explanation of her art, “This life-sized gum-ball covered HumVee comments on pop culture and reminds us of soldiers handing candy to children in far-flung countries at war with us.” ArtsWom believes that there is a more abstract angle to explore in this sculpture, but primarily is concerned with where you put your 25p and from which part does the gum dispense?!
